| Just recieved my TV a few hours ago. Took me about ten minutes to setup with help from my uncle and arrived in perfect condition. Has way better picture quality then the lg 32lg30 I replaced. Way deeper blacks and you can only notice that the edge of the tv is slightly brighter on the corners if you really try looking for it but it doesnt really bother me. Its not as bad as my friends Samsung 7000. I use this TV mostly for gaming and although it took me 30 minutes to find game mode it made a big difference when playing my Xbox 360. Theirs no need to worry about input lag on this set. I was going to get a samsung 40 B750 until I read a couple of reviews saying that it`s game mode isnt that great and you cant adjust the picture as much when game mode is on. Which turned out to be true when I checked out my friends Samsung 7000. Iam very happy with this purchase and I give this TV 5 stars!! |
Stop the research and buy this TV!!

I purchased this TV a few weeks ago and I am so happy I did! I spent months researching [online and in-store] LCD TVs for my bedroom and let me save you any more time and stress. Just buy this TV! You definitely won't regret it. In April 2009, I purchased the Samsung LN52A750 for my living room and I personally find the picture quality on this TV even better. Watching the 2010 Olympics on this TV has been oustanding!
I was looking for a TV for the bedroom and I figured I would spend the extra cash on a "smaller" TV because this is truly where we watch the majoriy of our television, anyway. Love this Sony, man! I read all the reviews for all the other mods and I'm really blown away by the quality of this model. It's a perfect fit for my bedroom. It's about 8' from headboard to TV and the picture is just absolutely perfect. The sound quality is phenomenal. This was important to me because I wasn't about to go and hook up yet another surround system, especially not in my bedroom (the wife won't let me :) ). If you have a DVR box (I have the HD/DVR box from Comcast), then the PIP still functions.
I hooked it up to a blu-ray player and needless to say....it's just awesome. I purchased the "Mediabridge Ultra Series - 6ft High Speed HDMI Cable - Version 1.3 Category 2 Certified - 1080p - Blu-Ray - PS3" cables from Amazon.com for $9.99, as I had for my 52" Samsung", and the quality is great. I suggest buying those cables, as well.
I decide to post this review because I rely heavily on user reviews (mainly Amazon and TripAdvisor) so I figured I would return the favor. I'm one of those guys that stresses about new big purchases, wants to make sure I'm getting the right and best product, etc. This is the one. I am so pleased I decided to pull the trigger on this TV set.
My biggest concern before buying this LCD for my bedroom was all the other channels that are not available in HD that we watch. Compared to my 52" Samsung, the quality of the non-HD channels on this TV is far superior. Of course, they're not going to be as great as HD or as clear perhaps on a tube TV, but the quality of even those non-HD Channels has truly impressed me.
On a side note - my wife and I happen to find the SONY-lit logo pretty cool (even though it can be disabled). I think it adds to the flavor of the TV. I'm a proud Sony owner and I want to show it off :). |

Six weeks ago, I purchased a KDL-40W5100 (which was eventually swapped for a KDL-40Z5100). When using it with a Wii, I noticed that the white background wasn't uniformly white. At the edges of the screen the white turned to gray, with the most variation at the left and right sides of the screen.
I created full-screen (1920 x 1080) images of various colors (red, blue, green, white, mid gray, and black) and copied them to a thumb drive. Then I used the built-in picture viewer to view the jpg files via the USB port. Sure enough, the edges of the screen were darker when any color (other than black) was displayed. I called Sony and they promptly sent out a replacement TV. It had the same problem, plus a new one. Now the black wasn't uniform. It showed a bright spot at one corner.
So I called again and worked my way through their slow phone support. The response was to send me a third W-series TV, but I figured this was some sort of systemic problem, so I escalated the case. Finally, a product support specialist confirmed my suspicion, saying that the LCD panel is too thin. I asked if the KDL-40Z5100 has the same design flaw. He told me it doesn't, so I worked with Sony to get a Z-series.
The Z-series TV finally arrived and it has the same problems. If you care about image quality, don't buy one of these TVs. |
the only thing this tv doesn't do, is cook dinner.

| netflix, youtube, and so much more is built into this tv! the tv guide built in is also outstanding.... these are things that should be mentioned. when i bought this tv, i bought it for the pricetag, and the specs... but i had no clue it had all these features. i just read it has sony's stupid little widgets. but i have a hard time not sitting around all day watching movies when its so easy to access with netflix being built right in. this tv is well worth the price. I payed $1,200 for mine, and it has been well worth the money. |
