Nice TV

Review Date: March 4, 2010
Reviewer: William H. Egge IV,
This TV has a very good picture, almost like a printout to paper (provided you give it a quality image). It has several inputs, I can plug almost anything into it (PC Monitor cable, HDMI, RCA, SVideo, USB).

I hooked the HDMI input to my computer but there is a smal delay which can be annoying when interacting with programs like games. I have not tried the PC input but it may solve that problem. Also, if you use the HDMI setting for a PC you have to set the TV picture setting to Actual Pixels rather than the default or the screen will get clipped on all 4 sides.

I paid $749 at the Sony store in the mall.
great tv and apparently fleetingly great price

I did A LOT of LCD HD research and had been watching this tv in my Amazon cart for a while at the ~$960 price then it suddenly dipped to $794 early Feb '10 so I jumped. Glad I did - a few days later it went back up and has been up since. Aside from that, it's a great tv - the internet widgets are fun though you'll want the fastest internet you can get. I have the "economy" from Comcast and it's a bit tedious waiting for things to load.

I agree with the review that the very corners of the lcd panel are darker, but it takes a super critical eye to see - honestly I would never have noticed if I had not been looking for it. Otherwise it's crystal clear - I was enthralled with every Olympic event I watched on it and I don't even care about the Olympics!

The price will probably go down in a few months with the new 2010s coming out. I would def recommend this tv to others.
Perfect Bedroom or Secondary HDTV

Review Date: February 24, 2010
Reviewer: R. K. Greene,
I purchased this 40" SONY HDTV on 2/7/2010 and it has performed way better than I expected. It was hooked up as my bedroom secondary HDTV, to the same DISH Network receiver (VIP612) as my primary 52" SONY in the rec room, nextdoor. This is the 2009 Bravia 3 model which you now should get from $750 to $900 through Amazon or local stores as they try to make room for the new 2010 models......An excellent value for this size HDTV. I was able to hook it directly into the DISH receiver via RGB Component Video and A/V Audio output jacks. I used 24 foot cables with no loss of quality. The bonus was that I could use the same Satellite remote control to operate either TV without changes and that the SONY remotes are essentially the same. I really wasn't looking for Internet/Games hookups, but it's nice to know they are there if the bedroom becomes an office/den.

Pros: Picture Quality Exellent(via HDMI or RGB component)
Cost: Now should be under $900
Ease-of-Use Remote and HDTV menus are simple for setup and use
Setup: Do-it-yourself....no help needed
Dimensions/Weight: 47 1/2"W x 23 1/2"H x 3"D and 40 lbs - easy to relocate
Cons: Sound is good for bedroom....add external speakers for better freq range
if needed. Desk mount does not swivel......wall mount possible

I would also suggest some type of backlighting behind the set...as the picture is
very bright in a dark bedroom. Sony does a good job in ensure there is minimal glare off the front screen.

Great Experience, Picture and Sound

This is not just a TV. With the features available you can; easily find whats on or coming up using the XrossMediaBar [...], simply connect to Amazon/Netflix/Youtube and other Internet video sources (does require some easy setup steps), onscreen widgets for weather/twitter/flickr and more from Yahoo are easily shown/hidden once configured, other options for auto on/off and the Bravia Sync for HDMI connected devices make using the TV a lot of fun.

The picture is excellent. Sound from the builtin speakers is really good for a TV alone. The XrossMediaBar is easy to get the hang of and makes the amount of features and settings easy to manuever compared to other style menus. A TV that can do all this can seem complicated but the basics are simple to control and if you want to do more its not as tedious as other sets.

As for looks, I haven't seen a set that looks better. The thin smoke gray bezel is different than what most sets look like with their large black frames. This set looks stylish but simple and really great hanging on the wall or sitting on a stand.
